November 30 [Film Review] World's Greatest Dad I have just finished watching the movie "World's Greatest Dad", and the clock is about to strike 12 in the midnight in one minute.It's late,yet I feel a great impulse to write something about it. Another movie starring by Robin Williams, one of my favorite film stars. I don't know why, but his movies always stunned me in one way or another. He has got the talent to bring the audience with him into the movie. I am pretty sure that I knew him from a phantasy movie "Jumanji(a funny one,at that time I really took him as a good comedian)".So far I have watched his "Death Poet Society(back in my college, I remember one of our English teachers showed it to us,and I must confess I didn't feel a thing at that time, just feel a little weird, a bit depressed, but nothing more)", and then "Good Will Hunting (not quite long ago,co-starring with Matt Damon)", and tonight "World's Greatest Dad".
At the very beginning, I suppose this would be another comedy about the problem between a father and his son. But it turns out far beyond that. Black humor, I would say. Sarcasm, también. The father Lance is a poetry teacher at his son's school,who also likes to write novels, poetry, children's books in his free time. But apparently his works are not popular since all are rejected by publishers, thus a loser, an asshole in his son's eyes. What about the son Kyle? Not a normal type,either. He has only one friend Andrew at school, and not welcomed/accepted by other students. Till one day he died and suddently all the students at school seem to like him very much and commemorate him in their own way. So what about the film title "World's Greatest Dad"? Is Lance truly the greatest dad in the movie? It's a bit tricky, since the way of his being great to his son is beyond everyone's imagination. The way Lance loves his son, by faking his "accidental death while masturbating",is abnormal. Then he faked a suicide note, which seemed to encourage and inspire his peers at school. So the father seemed to have done a decent job in converting people's prejudices on his son into sheer admiration.But was he happy about it? Obviously not. Thus finally he spit it out. No one liked his son before or after the death.And no one had ever tried to know the son since no one cared, even the father, who didn't know how to talk with his son. There was no man-to-man talk from the beginning to the end.
Lance the father said:"I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is ending up with people who make you feel alone. (我时常想一生中最糟糕的事莫过于孤独终老，但是我错了，最糟糕的其实是临终之时虽人群拥挤,却倍感孤单。)"
The last scene of the movie? Lance stripped himself naked, with barely a pair of socks on, and jumped into the school swimming pool. He chose to face the truth instead of living in a self-deceiving lie woven by himself about his son's death. Thus the ultimate freedom, symbolized by a naked body!

September 18 One+Two One day, I accidently broke my fish jar when I washed it. Its solo resident--a tiny silver fish(a goldfish in its spendid silver clothes) was then swimming gracefully in a bucket, its temporary shelter, not knowing the least about its broken home. Unluckily, it had then no official name yet, and of course, no nickname. But luckily, from the moment I wrote this, I have decided to call it "Lighting", a shock name, ha!! and awesome, I think. Why this particular name? Because it swims so fast, faster than the lighting, I must say, no exaggeration at all, anyone who had ever saw how it swimmed would definitely agree with me. Well, at that time, Lighting must be so heartbreaking if it got to know its water villa was cracked. I did not have a spare one, so I must go to the pets' market to buy a new one.
So there I went.
You may wonder, why there is only one fish dwelling in a fish jar? Shouldn't I at least keep two, so each has a company! The truth is, ever since its predecessor(a true goldfish in a almost gold shade) died of some unknown reason, the jar was cursed, or bewitched, to be only able to hold one, only one lodger. Why I said so? Mom bought home the other 7 lovely goldfishes when the jar was left vacant for 2 days. Why 7 then? The shoplady kindly suggested that keep an odd number of fish would make them live longer, for some reasons God only knows. So originally, the number was 7. Then strange things happened. 2 of them died a quick and successively death in the same morning they were bought home, and the other 2 the same afternoon, and the other other 2 the next day, when there was only one left, the mystical death finally draw to an end. It was ONE again, just like its last comrade, a solo soul. Thus here comes Lighting~~~
It was not so difficult to find Lighting another decent water villa. However, I most wanted then to find it a good company, perhaps not of its own species. What about a pair of tortoises? That will do. They need not to squeeze in the same jar, therefore none would die another mystery death, all could survive. At last I bought home a brand new fish jar(I was sure that Lighting wouldn't be picky about it!) and a pair of cute tortoises with their tiny house. And from then on, these three lived happily ever after.
I am pretty sure that I have read in some book that "Three keeps a good company"!!
Maybe the case would be a little complicated with a LOVE TRIANGLE, but it's all fish and tortoises I am talking about NOW~~  |
